13 May 2019, Le Chateau de Monte Cristo Museum, Le Port Marly, France

Le Chateau de Monte Cristo Museum, Le Port Marly, France chose Artist Adu Jahmal for their Exhibition June 22 thru September 22 2019.

American Artist Adu Jahmal (b. 1967) was born in Chicago, a city founded by a French Haitian trader, Jean Baptiste Point DuSable. How fitting is that, to reach into the legacy and perhaps DNA of Alexander Dumas.

Adu Jahmal Gallery is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he develops his methods and paintings, glass carvings and textiles.   The Château de Monte Cristo Collection captures the eloquence of Art Nouveau styles on sequins. A method developed in Las Vegas at his 8,000 sq. foot gallery.   “The Chateau” by Adu Jahmal begins the collection, theme by a dome structure in rustic old-world tones, accented in gold with reflections like stars in black (52” high by 58” wide) or “A magical boy named Caleb” Adu’s second painting composed in an array of sequins colors that adorns the night as you dream of mystical, magical places and people.  Such as a Sultan riding a horse through the stars, bearing his sword as he prepares for battle.   Other styles includes “The Opera” where Adu captures the essence of a subway station in Paris. Treated in Acrylic and resin that captures the feelings of being there (6’ high by 9’ wide).

“For me, Adu recalls, “this is a childhood dream come true.  Sitting with my Grandmother Annabelle while the smell of dinner is lingering in the warmth of the atmosphere. The sound of my peers yelling to my window, “come play.” Not for one moment did I consider. The Matinee this Sunday hosted by Frasier Thomas was none other than The Count of Monte Cristo.”

“I believe that only a few times in a generation do we see the manifestation of all the hopes, talent and dreams, the blood, sweat, tears and sacrifice of the ancestors embodied in one soul.  It is a cosmic combination that happens only rarely and the night I met Adu Jahmal, in a room full of middle-aged women drinking wine from his exquisitely carved bottles and glasses as he walked us, sang us, charmed us through the recitation of what makes a merlot more mellifluous than a cabernet, I knew I had happened upon one,” one patron recalls.

Built in 1847 The Château de Monte Cristo exhibition 2019 will be much more than a viewing this summer when Adu arrives with his exquisite collection of art hoping to establish cross Atlantic (Las Vegas-Paris) relationships with collectors and fellow gallerist throughout  Europe as he channels the rich legacy of Alexander Dumas...it’s going to be a blast from the past.
